Free model railway anyone?
Any South East England members into model railways?
I have been contacted by an acquaintance from the world of wristwatch collecting; I republish his message herewith:
For Free 6x4 foot P4 gauge Model Railway layout
I know nothing about model railways so I'm happy to be corrected on any of this. It is just the layout, no building or rolling stock. All the tracks are included but one section has come loose and will need to be reattached. Overall condition is . I thought I'd list it here before it goes on my local freecycle.
Update: I did a little measuring and research and I believe this is a P4 rather than oo. Track width is approx 18.8mm
Collection only in kent.
Contact me with a phone number that I can pass on.

A good offer, but note that this is one for the expert scratch builder, not off the shelf models. see https://www.world-of-railways.co.uk/tec ... hat-is-p4/

If anyone is connected with the world of railway modelling and can republish the advert in an appropriate place I would be grateful if they would so do. Gerald is most anxious that it doesn't end up being dumped.

Re: Free model railway anyone?
I think that the track was all hand built, certainly my fathers P4 / Scale4 stuff was, I had to push rivet in the sleepers by hand.... I think the scale was 18.84mm to the foot, I still have his scratch built locos, carriages and goods stock. The P4 society may still exist and from memory the society layout - 'Heckmondwike' was last seen at the national Railway museum in York.

Looks like a standard Hornby layout to me. The curve radius is too tight for a serious modeller.

Hornby 'Set Track' on a Hornby track mat.
Did you measure between the rail heads or rail centres?
OO gauge is 16.5mm between the rail heads.

Whereabouts in Kent is it? Reminds me of an old Hornby layout I had many years ago...

I obviously didn't make myself clear - I have nothing whatsoever to do with this item. I am merely passing on a message from an online acquaintance in the hope that we can save this item from landfill.
Or even worse, exposing my acquaintance from the horror of Freecycle or Facebook "buyers".
I have no dog in this fight.

Re: Free model railway anyone?
I have edited the original post by adding quotation marks in the hope that it makes more clear the fact that I am relaying a message from a third party and that I am not the originator of the information about this item.
I am about 250 miles away from the item and have never seen it. My involvement stems purely from a desire shared with the originator that this item does not end up in landfill.

Re: Free model railway anyone?
Excellent news - would have been a great shame if it had not been saved.
