Springs in 25D distributor

Post by minormarc »

Hi. Does it matter which way around the distributor springs should be i.e., which posts they are attached to?

I took my weights out a while ago because they were seized and lubricated them very sparingly. Now they seem to slide around quite nicely when the springs aren't attached and I THOUGHT I remembered which posted the springs were attached to because I took each spring off opposing posts so they could only go back one way, but I have read a document that shows a 25D with the springs the opposite way around to the way I have them.

Many thanks, as always, for your thoughts.

The correct spring should be fitted to the correct weight otherwise you will not get the correct ignition advance.

So I have just swapped my springs over so they look like this picture. Does anyone know if this is the correct way around?

Just stripped a distributer to check the correct orientation and the springs are the other way round. The strong spring is attached to the advance stop plate peg and the weak spring is attached to the other post.
The distributer was fitted to a running engine which performed well.

As usual Phil, you are an absolute gent. Thank you SO much. I'll swap my springs back to the way they were before.
