Unable to add name to send private message

Post by Oldmogman »

Has anyone else had problems with the private message function, which won't allow you to enter the name of the recipient?

I've tried copying and pasting, clicking 'add' and every possible permutation of adding the name but it still doesn't work!

I just typed (not cut and paste etc) your name into the box, clicked add and all was ok.
Make sure that you get the name right including any under scores etc.
I have sent you a PM to test the system.
System says that it has gone to you and is sitting in your PM in box.

Oldmogman, I've also sent you a message.

I did forget to add a title to my message, so it was initially rejected.

Tried again, and it's been sent. Hopefully you've received.
Cheers Jonnie.

In the User Control Panel are options to allow contact by email and PM. If the user to whom you are trying to send has set to NOT allow contact by PM, then you won't be able to send them one. Send me a PM with the name of the user you are trying to contact and I'll check it out - I can't change their preference, but can confirm whether they will accept PMs.

Are you trying to do too much?
Have you used the PM function before?
You're only allowed to message one person, not multiple contacts.
I've just clicked on your name on your post, which took me to your public profile and on clicking 'Send a PM', your name is there,...

Just soldier on a bit longer with the faffing about on the board guys - I know I've hinted at it before, but following my playthings leaving the perambulator at considerable velocity recently, a meeting is scheduled very soon to put forward positions and ways forward.

Thanks guys - I've tried replying as per Phil's instructions (as well as every other permutation) but the system just deletes the name from the box when I hit 'add'.

I've used the reply function many times before but now it's refusing to play!

I don't understand why you are using the ADD button?
I sent you a test message, which I assume you have since it's gone from my Outbox.
Just click SEND REPLY on that and add a few words to the text area.
Then SUBMIT.
Don't click anything else.
