Once again I seem to have stopped getting notifications. I have a couple from 22:09 and 22:441 last night (22nd) but nothing since although there are 11 notifications waiting for me when I open the Messageboard.

Can you take a look please Mike.

Just posted here from my personal account to set up requests for notifications, then posted from admin account to trigger a notification, and got the email just a few moments later. All seems to be working for me? Have you had the notifications about *this* post?

Yes, just had a group of 5 notifications come through of which yours was one. First one was 14:23, last one 14:47.

Don't know what you did but thank you.

Sorry to report that notifications have stopped working again - I haven't had any for a couple of weeks now.

As did I. And now I've got one for yours, too! I think we should treat that feature as 'experimental', as the last two times it's fallen over it has somehow resolved itself without any input from me before I had a chance to look at it!

Mine notifications have stopped again. Not sure exactly when but I suddenly realised the Message Board had been very quiet for some time and sure enough there were loads of notifications outstanding when I loaded it up.

And they're back again. Odd how the notifications stop for a period and then restart.

And they've stopped again. Last one I got was 16:35 on 20/2/21.

Just one of the ongoing failures of the broken site.
I've always had all the notifications selected, yet I've never had an email come through to tell me I've had a PM.
The only one that does work is the actual Notifications icon if I have a PM, which is somewhat superfluous since it's right next to the PM button...

I say this with more confidence than I've ever said it before - don't worry about it. In a very short time, and I mean very short, we'll be on a new service that will mean we can forget about the [censored] we've had to put up with recently. I can't say precisely when because we're dependant on external factors but it will NOT be long

Hello Mike,
How long is a piece of string?
We are now 7 months down the line from your last post and nothing has happened.
I'm still not getting notifications and haven't heard anything about migration to a new platform.
Is the MMOC Forum dying a death?
Is there any point in staying a member?
In the past I found this forum very helpful and I tried my best in imparting information gleaned from my own repair projects.
A load of the info I posted up was lost (in the way of images) when the last migration happened - this was a complete travesty and the providers should have been ostracised.
The loss of this data was a blow to the whole MMOC community.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT????????????????????

When Mike wrote the above, we were in the process of moving the board to a new server. Regretfully, we then ran into some sizing issues with the volume of posts and images just too great for the servers that were available. We are now in the process of building a completely new server without any limits. Unfortunately, that does take time, and we are all doing this in our spare time.

However, in the great scheme of things, not getting notifications is not really a big issue. The board is still working, the information and advice is still there. All you have to do is to log in and click "New posts" to see everything that has happened since your last visit. Done regularly, the list will not be large, and if a topic in which you're interested has had a new post, then it will be in the list. The search function is also working, so it's easy to find topics on specific subjects or by specific authors. You can also use "Your posts" to keep track of your own topics.

There's so much information and help available, I'd say that it's well worth staying a member.

I'm sorry to hear that some of your posts were lost in the migration. The migration was completed by a specialist supplier with whom some of us have been less than impressed. The good news is that Mike has a folder of images, and one day we hope to be able to relink at least some, but that is a very long term project. In using a specialist supplier, it was hoped that the Club was ensuring the best possible service for its members, but it now seems that a better service will be achieved by using our own members, but as mentioned above, that does mean working (for free) in our spare time; so please bear with us.

Well said simmitc, I for one appreciate the difficulties the volunteers are having, though I do feel you deserve more support from Club management.

I've always used the 'New Posts', because unfortunately, the 'Active Topics' selector, which I use on other sites is one of the functions that's broken here.

Nice to have an update, thanks. Every Tom Dick and Harry appear to call themselves ‘Specialists’ these days, it’s getting to the stage where they’re the ones to avoid! ——- agree, the new post facility is the easy answer.

Funnily enough I never used to get notifications, but now I'm suddenly getting them.

Also about lost posts, if there were images you wanted to specifically fix but couldn't due to their loss from the forums you may be able to recover the photos yourself by grabbing them from the internet archive site and then updating the migrated posts that are broken with new attachments.

As an example, the forums in:

2006:
https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://ww ... ewtopic&t=*

2013:
https://web.archive.org/web/20130115052 ... eboard.php

2017 (the layout is somewhat broken):
https://web.archive.org/web/20171220084 ... /index.php

2020:
https://web.archive.org/web/20200921093 ... /index.php

etc...
