Insurance

Post by Shropshiremoggie »

My current Insurance is with Adrian Flux . Renewal is £135 for limited mileage etc. Any members recommendations for alternatives or is this reasonable ? Value of vehicles is declared as £2500 and garaged .

To give you a comparison. Mine is with Footman James. Car declared at £5000 value. Garaged. Mileage 3000 per annum. I"m the sole driver. I have 3 points on my licence. Last renewal was £133. Don't know how much difference our respective post-codes make. Can't be much as we only live about 20 miles apart. We're both In the same(ish) age group too. :D

My 1963 Traveller has no mileage restriction, £5000 value, clean licence. Joint policy with an MGA. Minor element is £69.26 plus IPT @ 12%+= £78ish. I also pay another £9.38 for legal cover for the two cars. Insurer is RH Specialist Insurance with ERS. I am fairly ancient and live in Wiltshire. The MG is £120+tax, with a 3000 agreed mileage.

I have just insured my Traveller with Adrian Flux it cost me £95 for fully comp with agreed value of £8500 and recovery etc.
The mileage limit is 3000, but for another £10 could be upped to 5000. The car is not garaged either.

Footman James wanted £178 for the same insurance.

I've just re-insured my 1275 Midget with Lancaster ( MGOC club insurer). Renewal quote was £160 - they came down to £100 very quickly when i told them i had a competitive quote, implying that the renewal quote is automatically generated, and they can always improve if you call! They also quoted me £100 for the Minor, £85 if i bought it there and then ( I hate this approach  )

Next up I'll be looking at FJs quote for the Minor.

For the Midget i had a quote from RH - noticed in the standard qualifications that it wasn't covered for theft if the roof was down, so anyone with a convertible may want to check the 'small print' on any quotes.

There's a running post on insurance at the moment on the Morris Minor Owners facebook page.

Max considers excess speed undignified! Points obtained whilst driving the modern. 37 in a 30 zone. I'd got lost between Bromyard and Stourport. Ended up near Shelsey Walsh where the boys from West Mercia had a camera van set up.

over the years,i have used Carole Nash for different Policies..motorcycle,six-wheel,classic car and modern.but my everyday car Policy was up for renewal, and as i had a 'automatic renewal',i didn't bother shopping around. however,i had a letter off them saying the automatic renewal had failed..i immediately rang them and assured them the funds were in the bank, and to try that option again,or i would post a cheque first thing in the morning.that didn't satisfy the yoof on the other end of the line..so i looked on-line and ended up insuring with the AA,at around £50 cheaper :)
i insure my classic bikes with Peter James.

Over the years, I have never had an issue at all with RH. They're great! Latest Minor was £67 plus insurance tax £9.38. I also had legal expenses cover as an extra option at £9.38. The breakdown cover is included in the insurance premium, and also if the car is written off, they pay out and give the car back to you free of charge. As old cars are more likely to be written off, the car could probably be repaired by an enthusiastic and knowledgable owner, and put back to use.

I've just renewed with Footman James and I own a van and mine went up to about £200 this year and they know I use it a couple of times a week for work and is kept on the drive and it used to be unlimited mileage now they have changed to 3000 miles a year.

I suppose a lot depends on Postcode , usage , garaging etc. but that seems a lot . My current thinking is to go with RH . Thanks for comment !

I tried other companies and they would not insure the van because I need it twice a week for my work even when I said I've got a modern car as well.
