I am lubricating them with 140 grade oil instead of grease.

Whilst I would be happy with using 140 oil - the trouble with using oil is that the seals are dust seals and not oil seals. They are not designed to keep oil within the trunnion.

That is true but I believe the ‘creep’ of 140 oil provides better lubrication and it is no trouble to inspect the trunnions to check for leakage.

It is quite likely that grease contains 140 oil - in its soap carrier. The engineers specified grease for a good reason, I expect.
