Adderley Park Built Minor's

Post by POMMReg »

If you own one, would you please contact me quoting the at least 2 of the following;

Chassis No.
Body No.
Engine No.
G/Box & R/Axle No.
Key No.

Have built up a substantial database of chassis numbers, although lacking any other details.

ALL information greatly appreciated.

Thanks

How would owners know if they had an Adderley vehicle?

Larger case chassis prefix on LCVs, Travellers with NO "/" between the "M" & "A".

No real progressing on the book - although1969-1971 LCV done - No additional Traveller details forthcoming, therefore so close, yet so far!

Skeleton of the draft copy quite good - probably goes into TOO much detail at times - but far better than the hit'n'miss information currently available.

My Traveller (1293704F) is negative earth and I understood this was normal for late cars. I have a file of invoices, from when the car was new and there is no mention of it having been converted to negative earth. Were any late Minors built with negative earth and if so, from what point (I know Adderley Park records are incomplete)?

Interesting. My understand was the latest remained positive earth but with an alternator, as per the last LCVs. I could be wrong. And, as you say, the records are lost . My 1284 is still positive earth and a dynamo.

I found an invoice, dated 1991, which includes a car alarm. There is no mention of a conversion to negative earth and the alarm would have been based on negative earth. I have never had a car alarm (Had an immobiliser that failed and was removed; most of my anti theft devices are known to me only) and there was no sign of it when I bought the car, so I don't know how they work or whether they can be wired backwards (I expect it varies) but if not, it shows the car was negative earth in 1991.

Interesting to uncover what Minor's are NEG or POS

BMC, BLMC or BL

MM 918cc's too

Early AddPk Travellers had a J suffix to their chassis nos.

Leave it to someone more patient than me🤣

Getting info like getting blood out of a stone, tempted to write a song....

The flight of the body number.

"It is a wonderous little thing...
Right of the bonnet spring..
Sometimes it's clear, others it's not..
The things learned can be such a lot.."

Other old favourites include; "My Morris Minor's Polarity", "The Love between an LRBM & a woman", "Papa was a rollin' body number"...and many, many more...🤣

Hi POMMReg,

Some background for some of us to better research might be of some help. What years did Adderley park produce cars? Did any of the Adderley Park cars get exported? Would the / or the J be in any numbers on a exported cars? Are you looking for just Traveller info or any car that can be identified as a Adderley Park car?

Not much help but I do have some records of the local club that I can look at if any of these questions can be answered.

AddPk Travellers;

1969 1257425 - 1288377
1970 1288378 - 1290812
1971 1290813 - 1294082

1969 examples carried a "J" chassis number suffix, around c5/70 subsiquent vehicles - alongwith civilian commercials adopted "F" - to add to the confusion, PO postals adopted this suffix in c7/69, PO engineers c10/70.

The "numbers" of Traveller on chassis plates were stamped at Cowley, including the "J"(?) - preventing foul-up's with 2dr/4dr numbering - whereas, the "MAW5D" & "F" was stamped at Adderley Park.

Body number range for AddPk Travellers approx 205001-220600.

STILL an ongoing project!🤣

My Adderley Park Traveller was only registered in April 1971, but is MAW5D 1286***F, so 1969 according to this list. I think it's more likely to be late 1970, in line with Ray Newell's Traveller book.
