Uttlesford Branch Meeting 7/3/2017

Post by firedrake1942 »

Fellow lunatics.

The sun is shining (Time to decant Morris from wherever it has lain over winter and wash and polish) and I bring several items of good tidings:

1) The next meeting is confirmed at the Bluebell in Hempstead (http://thebluebell1nn.co.uk) as the Railway seems to have shut down for good - looks like it may be converted into housing. Date is 7/3 ( I know its the first Tuesday but I will be in France on the 14th so I have brought it forward if nobody minds !) and time 7-730 pm. We can give this a try and if it doesn't suit then other venues are available locally ie the Plough.

2) Shuttleworth Collection (http://www.shuttleworth.org/book-a-ticket/) . This has been provisionally booked for the 29th of April (Saturday) and there are significant discounts for parties of 10 or more. ie £10.00 per person for the collection as opposed to £20.00, so the more the merrier. There is also a discount on the garden area as well should anyone be interested. They are very interested in having a car club attend as I have mentioned I will try and do a write up for Minor Matters. As this is our first real outing as a branch it would be good to get a good showing and numbers and perhaps go as nearly in convoy as possible - safety and breakdowns permitting.

3) If any one is looking to make their engine bay really period I have been tracking down stickers and decals for mine and can give details at the meeting. The usual ones for the rocker cover, fuel pump, coil etc are quite well known , but there are also replacement chassis and engine Plates available now, and an MMOC member called Taupe has actually reproduced the NMP plate usually found on the NS chases leg in the engine bay. This is often lost when chassis leg or engine bay plate are replaced and contributes greatly to the original look of the engine bay. I have got a Lucas 50’s /60’s battery sticker as the modern labels often detract. Once I find out the size of my battery, there is a company on the US who make and supply boxes to go over the modern battery with holes for the terminals and look as original as they day it cam out of the show room. If you think I am getting obsessed - you are probably right.

4) Talking of obsession. but also of safety. The only indicators I will have in the future are the trafficators and I have tracked down the following. They are simply a swap for the bulbs already in the trafficator lenses if you have them, but actually flash! I have also got a Morris badged sticker for the rear window warning that trafficators are the indicators. They are supplied by http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com and there is a video which shows just how bright they are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJLwsOD ... e=youtu.be

5) I pick up my car from Bristol on 24/3 it has been there since 20/9/16 so I will be very happy but also rather poor (Don’t ask)!

Great to hear from you . Our next meeting, by coincidence is tomorrow evening 7.30 on at the Bluebell pub in Hempsted, (Address: High St, Hempstead, Saffron Walden CB10 2PD) parking at the side and out front. A line of Morris Minors outside this lovely blue painted traditional village inn is a lovely sight. I am usually there about 30 minutes before as they do excellent food. We usually have the back room which gives onto the garden and if n rain (British Summer after all) we may be out there.

No fees, just good company; Excellent Saffron Brewery beer and other owners to chew over problems / conundra / and successful maintenance tales. There is (Not me I am afraid) a wealth of technical knowledge and experience from some of the members.

As advertised the 'Branch' rally is held at Saffron Walden Motor Show on 13/8 on the Common. In addition to our small but contented band we hope to have a presence from Herts, Essex, Cambridge, and North London branches.

I can be contacted direct on dadmjsdm@aol.com.

Which model / car / colour etc do you have ?

Best wishes

Jon Morgan (Secretary, by default - it was my stupid idea, and herder of cats)!
