CAR CARPETS

Post by lencot76 »

To finish off the restoration on my Morris 1000 I purchased a set of carpets from Coverdale. For the price I was pleased with them, they fitted well and thay were well finished,The old story of you get what you pay for ,hoever I would use them again .I am just finishing restoring an Austin A35,which is superb. There was a set of "home made "carpets in the car,but after fitting new headlining and new seats it didn`t look up to standard. So I thought I would give another compant a go and I ordered a set of carpets, from xxxxxxxxxx. To say I wasn`t very impressed is an understatement. The carpets didn`t fit that well, the side carpets where they go against the "B" post were not edged, (only cost a couple of pence )and there was no "cut out " for the O/S section to fit better round the handbrake. The bulkhead carpet didn`t have the cut outs for the pedals and the steering column which if there should have been edged .Also since it overlaps the gearbox carpet ,there should have been carpet edging round it ,which there wasn`t.The gearbox carpet itself wasn`t a pariculary good fit.For the sake of a bit more time taken on getting them right and a few pence worth of edging,it would have been a different story.I haveemailed them re these problems, but no one has bothered to return an email .I WILL KNOW WHO TO GO TO NEXT TIME .Len

Once you find a decent supplier, it pays to stay with them!

You know,we are dead lucky that there are lots of bits available for Minors. All sorts of prices and various qualities,of course. It's a bit more tricky with Baby Austins. Trim parts are quite a bit rarer. I'm looking to replace the carpets in my '55 A30 and nobody really recommends any supplier wholeheartedly. I might just get them measured up and made... Although it's not a terribly practical car it is my favourite.

It's really good to know which carpet companies come recommended, there's so many online that without talking to someone whose purchased from them you have very little idea what to expect.
My carpets in a bit of a sorry state, no amount of carpet cleaner is going to smarten it up to any decent level (I've tried), so I think a new carpet might be on the cards when I can afford it. Its not the original carpet so I don't feel precious over it, my only concern is the rest of the interior is original, so the contrast of a spanking new carpet might change 'lived in and charming' interior into 'run down and shabby'.

I used Coverdale for the carpets in my Lowlight and was very pleased with them. Even managed to get them in the correct brown colour.

Lencot: Just a reminder that, as per Cam's message, this forum shouldn't be used as a place to air complaints: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=62182 You can supply the name of the company via pm if people wish to know. Thanks.

I don't know about A30s (mine doesn't have any carpets - a job well down the list...) but if you want the original look, Morris Minors shouldn't have edging on the carpets. The edge binding is only used to make it look a bit smarter and to get away with using cheaper carpet that frays if just left with a cut edge. I don't think anyone supplies a proper spec carpet set for Minors but most are happy with the neatly edged stuff that you can get....
