Marina 1.3 Breathers

I am fitting a newly rebuilt 1.3 Marina engine to my Convertible. I have a fitted a Hif 38 carb and found all the connection info on this site but there seems to be lots of conflicting info on breathers. I know I must connect the Rocker box cover vent to the carb but what else?
Should I take a vent from the cover plate which blocks the old mechanical fuel pump?
Should I have a separate vent with an oil collection bottle?
Should I just wait and see how it runs?
So many questions!

I assume it has a vent can on the timing case cover? Join that to the rocker cover vent with a T - and then to the carb inlet pipe on the side.

No, there is no vent can on the timing chain cover. It is the 1.3 Marina engine with the screw on oil filter near the distributer

Whilst it may not have a breather on the timing cover it should have!
Even the timing chain cover for the Marina engine 10V (1100cc) Pt No: 12G2507 has the breather/oil separator on the front face.
The timing chain cover for the Marina engine 12V (1300cc) Pt No: 12G2623 also has the breather/oil separator on the front face.
I suspect that someone has used the standard Minor timing chain cover Pt No: 12A1419 (with lip seal) when doing the Marina to Minor conversion. It may also at the same time had a duplex kit fitted.
A picture of the timing chain fitted to your engine would be appreciated.

I think i'm right in saying that you'd need to cut down the breather canister anyway, if your timing cover had one, as to clear the fan?

That's not a Morris minor! It hasn't got provision for a starting handle! :D

As suspected - a Morris Minor type timing cover most likely fitted when the front engine plate was fitted so enabling the Marina engine to be fitted utilising the Minor engine mountings; and with the Marina damper and crankshaft bolt also retained.
Note: there are two types of damper crankshaft bolt. The bolt Pt No: TAM2019 is fitted and used for the later 'A' Plus damper and has a countersink in its end to identify it. The bolt for the earlier non 'A' Plus damper is Pt No: AEA312 and has a plain head.
Examining both bolts there is a distinct difference in the underside of the head of the bolt where it makes contact with the damper/crank.
As regards a crankcase vent you can tap into the aperture where the mechanical fuel pump was fitted but it must have a oil separator gauze fitted between the crankcase and carb/pollution valve.
I have previously suggested utilising one of these bolt on breathers/oil seperator fastened to the fuel pump aperture via an adapter plate.

You could fit that type of breather - although I suggest a timing cover breather will be a GOOD IDEA.... The 1275 needs all the breathing it can get -or you will end up with an oil soaked clutch.

Thanks everybody. I will look at all the options. I am going to be using the car to Spain so am fitting an electric cooling fan so there should be room for some type of breather on the timing chain cover.

For long runs like that I would definitely have the timing case breather - and the fuel pump breather, and retain the rocker breather too.
