Painting badge

Hi,
the bonnet badge on my traveller has lost all of it's red and blue paint so it is just plain chrome. Would it be possible to repaint the detail? Has anyone done this and if so, what did they use?

I would imagine the badge could be repainted using fine artists brushes and model makers enamel paints which are only two or three pounds for a small tin.

Hello James, I used nail varnish and it looks ok, they came with a brush in the lid (but you may need a smaller one)

Yep, I very carefully did mine too, the bull in red and the water waves in blue - Humbol Enamel Paints are £1.10 a tin from Hobby Craft. Have a cloth with some thinners on, then if the paint goes over the raised chrome you can quickly rub it off. Also, I used a kids small paint brush but thinned and choped the bristles down at an angle for more control.
As my car's previous owner was something to do with the common wealth in the 1960's and as I work for a Govt Body, I have just bought a very rare "Civil Service Motoring Association" badge. It has a lovely red crown and flying wings, very classy. With this I have very carefully painted all the lettering in cream.

Thanks for the advice! I'll get some Humbrol paints and do them. What sort of thinners did you use?

Any, its only to remove the smallest amount of wet paint, with this job less is more and a steady hand is needed.

raising this from the dead. the humbrol paint code link seems to be invalid now - anyone know which ones?

A long time go I tried the Humbrol enamels but the paint fell off quite quickly. I was very inexperienced with paint back then and I may not have cleaned and de-greased the surface properly.

I used Revell 14ml 'Email Color' Enamel paint: 31 Gloss Fiery Red and 52 Gloss Blue.

Call in at your local nail salon, they have a wide range of colours and their nail varnish pretty tough stuff
Whether or not will work on badges instead of nails I do not know!
