948cc gear lever in a 1098 box!

Post by Morrisminormo »

Hi

When I changed my car from 948 engine and box to a 1098 engine and ribbed case box I used my original 948cc gear lever as it looked better. Now a week later the lever feels like it's getting lose! In first the play left to right is getting excessive! But all gears feel like there is lots of play now. But it's been getting worse the more I drive it. I am beginning to think I made a error in my judgment

Hope it's just a case of swapping them back, or tightening a grub screw!

Here's a photo of the difference between the two levers - I made the same mistake without realising it. I used the earlier, shorter lever in my 1275 gearbox and couldn't engage reverse gear properly. Fortunately I also had a later gearlever so problem was easily solved but for those who have a 'sloppy' gear lever in a 1098 car, it may be worth checking the lever first to see if you have the shorter one fitted. The later rib case boxes - 1098 and 1275 - require the lever with the longer end. Good luck ;-)[frame]Image[/frame]

Changing a gearlever has stopped all the rattles in the car?! that's impressive!
If not can't imagine what other work you have had to do!
