I have just bought a 1098 tourer and cant get anymore than 55 mph, any thought?

That it's a question, not a useful tip.

Check that all four plugs are firing. Probably best to do a full service (plugs, points, leads, cap etc + air filter) and also check that none of the brakes are binding. Is the choke returning OK?

Whilst doing the service, don't forget to set valve clearances and check compression.

Have you checked the carb maybe take off and clean

Remove the air cleaner element - any better? You should be able to get at least 56 mph......
