Ageing gracefully?
I seem to have a bit of a debate going on. My morris minor series 2 is completely original. Now some people would want to completely over hall it. Respray etc. but in my mind the car is only original once and it's patina seems to suit it well. Just out of interest who else follows this train if thought? I plan to let the Moggie age gracefully. The Buddhist theory that everything is already broken seems to make sense to me but other prefer a Moggie prestige not used etc. any thoughts?

Keep it like it is. Why undo the other work of other mortals. [frame][/frame]DC89media wrote:I seem to have a bit of a debate going on. My morris minor series 2 is completely original. My vote goes for leaving it as it is. To me patina is all and which will contain a wealth of history, you cannot beat an all original car.
Restore to pristine and more and you have lost all what you have and it just becomes another Minor
Only repair and replace what you have to keep it roadworthy.

Re: Ageing gracefully?
I agree.as long as the engine keeps on going then its all good.
Re: Ageing gracefully?
Yes - as long as it is 'sound' and reliable. Any essential body repairs could be done sympathetically - but don't let it decline to a non-running wreck!

[frame][/frame] Has never failed an MOT test (now exempt ). Immaculate paint work will not get your vehicle through an MOT test.bmcecosse wrote:Yes - as long as it is 'sound' and reliable. Any essential body repairs could be done sympathetically - but don't let it decline to a non-running wreck!
Good ownership, with a good understanding of what makes your vehicle safe, will. Forget the paint, think of the metal, brakes, etc.

Re: Ageing gracefully?
Looks sound enough, but badly in need of a de-surface rusting session followed up by chassis black then some Waxoyl or similar to preserve it.

No rust. Take a lump hammer to it,and you will end up with a sore wrist. Yes, would look better painted, but when I'm sat in the cab I can't see it. If it aint broke don't fix it !Chipper wrote:Looks sound enough, but badly in need of a de-surface rusting session followed up by chassis black then some Waxoyl or similar to preserve it.
Re: Ageing gracefully?
Yes, but why not do your utmost to preserve it in that nice sound condition, with a lick of decent paint, and some rust protection to protect it from the elements?
Or at least, spray or brush on some old engine oil to deter further rusting.

Have them "eyes" been added? Our '61 doesn't have them.[frame][/frame]

Re: Ageing gracefully?
DC89media, forgot to mention, leave it original, as you said: "It's only original once."

Yes, even that would do - anything's got to be better than just leaving it bare metal!dalebrignall wrote:live and let live just use oily rag tecnique

Re: Ageing gracefully?
No protection from rot whatsoever, drench it in engine oil asap!
Horrifying!!
Those "eyes" were a spec. for the GPO, the LCV's major customer.

Don't know whether it was true or not, but a guy at Yeading CRD told me the GPODAVIDMCCULLOUGH wrote:Katy,

insisted on a separate chassis for their LCVs.
Who know's?
