This topic has been discussed but I think this article from MiniMania by Keith Calver is worth reading. His conclusion is that an additive is the best choice.

Oh dear KC..... :roll: :roll: :roll: Depends on the use of the car - IF going to drive it hard and long - then best option without a doubt is a proper unleaded head conversion. If just normal running/limited Mway(Freeway..) running then don't bother wasting money on additives - but DO set the exhaust valve gaps at 15 thou, and check/reset them every 3000 miles. It will be fine.
