misfiring

Post by gavinbishopuk »

HELP!
I have recently replaced the fuel pump. Car has stopped stalling, due to lack of petrol, but is now misfiring and giving no power when moving. It's fine when idling.
I have replaced contacts, condenser, rotar arm, spark plugs and leads.
What's going on?! What have I not done, or do you think I should check again?!

Do you have the spark plug wires in the proper order? 1-3-4-2.

I'd suspect the carburettor. Sticking needle, piston, crud in the jet, etc. Whizz the lid off the float chamber and blow the jet through. Worth checking in there anyway.
Cheers,
Michael

I'd suspect the carburettor. Sticking needle, piston, crud in the jet, etc. Whizz the lid off the float chamber and blow the jet through. Worth getting the piston out for a good clean anyway. If everything is fine in there, it's likely to be a vacuum leak somewhere - either an inlet port (unlikely) or the spacer between the manifold and carb.
Cheers,
Michael
