wheel tracking
After finishing full rebuild, And 1000 miles on the road noticed the inner edges of the front two tyres are starting to wear, only slightly and evenly, i have fitted new bearings, bushes,track rod ends . So i thought the tracking was out, i did try to measure the front and back edges of the drums as close as i could. i went to the garage who told me cost of £45 which seems a bit steap at that price i might as well buy new tyres every few years as they say potholes ect. effect tracking anyway. Doe`s anyone know the best way to measure this more accurately myself. Thanks.

you need a bit more toe in then
just move the track rod ends out a tad

Make a simple tracking gauge ! Mine is a length of Dexion (but could as easily be timber) with two arms bolted on at right angles. Hold against the sidewall at one side and measure gap at the other with 6" rule. Then repeat at the rear of the tyres - and compare readings. Do it a couple or three times to make sure you have same result each time.....then adjust and re-measure. £45 is rip-off territory.....

We use a laser tracking gauge on a 4 post lift. Checking is FREE if it needs adjusting the charge is £25 inc vat. Iv'e just done my van was a piece of cake. Set to as the manual says 2.5mm toe in.
For those who work in degrees and proper measurements (inches) our kit has a conversion chart as the laser itself shows millimetres, the conversion to degrees is dependant on the wheel diameter on the vehicle.
If you live near me I'll do it for you for nowt when lift is not in use.

Thanks for the generous offer but i made a right angled frame bolted together and steel ruler, got it to 1/8inch toe in, I am happy now Thanks again Dave.

That's the way - and the test I use is - I measure 3 times and if I get the same result each time.......
