Door handles (2 door)

Post by olonas »

I need to renew the door handles on my Traveller.
I know the window frame has to be removed for access. All the bolts, nuts etc., that secure the frame, have been freed off and greased.
How is the window disengaged from it's lower channel attached to the winder mechanism? More important, is it easy enough to re-engage?!!
I have read two opinions as to what happens to the window.
1. lower carefully to the door bottom, and leave it there.
2. remove with the frame.
Which is correct? Any info would be appreciated.

Lo, undo the Window Winder plate and, with the window somewhere
near the half way position you will be able to part the winding
mechanism from the track on the window bottom, remove the
winding mechanism. There are two bolts, roughly in line with the
front forward vertical window channel, which secure the door skin
steady plate. If you remove these the window can be lowered to
the door bottom, leave it there. You also have to remove the two
nuts which secure the quarter light assembly to the door(these
can break off unless you soak then in releasing fluid). You only
have to raise the frame high enough to allow you to reach the
handle assembly.

Door handles

Thanks for that Willie. Yes, I've already freed off all the bolts mentioned, and the nuts under the quarterlights. All replaced and suitably greased to allow easy removal when I change the handles/pins. I have read somewhere, as mentioned in my original post, that the window may be removed still in the frame as long as care is taken to keep hold of it during removal. Probably safer at the bottom of the door anyway, they can't be dropped any further!!
