starter ring on 950

I have a 1958 Minor 1000, 2 door Saloon. Finished engine rebuild, Next job is to replace the starter ring.I went on ESB spares, they have two rings, i counted the teeth on the one for the 800 & 950 it had 107. On the ring for the 1098 this had 104 teeth. The ring i am taking off has 104. Why is this and doe`s it matter which one i use. Any info on this please. boydogs.
