hi will these really fit a 1970 2 door saloon seat frame

You'll find that the rubber on those old ones will not be very pliable so fitting might be a problem. ESM sell the same thing new: http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/pro ... 2b0751bb4f

A length of 2 X 4 timber will surely be more stable than a seat wobbling about on these rubber blobs..........

Believe it or not BMC they certainly do not wobble or we would never have fitted them. They are a very snug fit to the metal frame of the seat, and lift with the seat to allow access to the rear seats without falling off. Much safer I think than a piece of wood which people getting into the rear may trip over getting in!

Even with 3 cable ties they still wobbled on mine so I added an aluminium bracket.

That looks better ! But does it not cut into the carpet? Modern cars of course must have the seat secured so it cannot tip forward - and my MOT garage has asked for this on my Traveller. I simply tighten the front mountings by adding duct tape between bracket and seat frame - and then hammering the screws down very firmly indeed.

It's slightly above the carpet-doesn't touch it.

bmc I'm using a block of wood at the moment,it works well ,tho I take it out for the MOT.
I do feel a little ashamed when i have to explain to mates

Seats in a Moggie as they are should pass MoT as long as the front clamp plates are secure and the seat can be moved back and forth and be locked in position. As the seat belt mounts are NOT part of the seat.
The confusion starts when refering to the backrest being able to be secured in an upright position. This only refers to ADJUSTABLE back rests like in your modern.
I would however like to see a nice tight fit of the seat tube in the saddles, but tilting forward is ok (otherwise how would one get into the back seat of a 2 door. (chance would be a fine thing lol..)

ALSO the manual tells us: "Original Design characteristics and specialised modifications (e.g. to enable wheelchair access) are to be accepted"

Moggie front seats are definatley an origonal design characteristic!

I may be wrong, but think they are Triumph Herald items. I've seen old cruddy ones on a few Heralds.
Either that or a period accesory for any car with tube framed tipping seats.

I got a Minor recently that had the usual piece of wood, but was carved so the legs of the seat located in it and the wood was attached by a couple of spring clips (the sort of thing you use to fasten tools to the garage wall with). Quite neatly thought out and done with no extra holes or mods to the seat or car. I immediately took it off, as being tall its the last thing I need on a Minor, but if anyone wants it I'll bring it to the national...

@ drivewasher - I know full well you are right on the MOT/seat thing - I just find it easier not to start any arguments with the guy who has the power to nit-pick every tiny detail of my car if he wishes - I go for the easy life...........

I can see where your coming from. But a testing manual is is there to work to, it works both ways of course!
The Manual is composed by vosa so as to get an even testing standard accros the country lol...
