Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
Sounds a very good starting point. Is this a kit as available from one of the many suppliers? If so which one? Or is it an old school marina or midget conversion? Or a home made one?

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
fitting the subaru engine looks like a lot of work..
having a look on ebay at the rear of the engine...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Subaru-Impreza-WR ... 500wt_1156
there appears to be a lot of engine either side of the clutch which will probably require a lot of work on the front chassis legs of the car to get it to fit..

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
Yeah i noticed that, but it seems the engine (just) fits inside the bay.
My only worry is the gearbox...[frame][/frame]

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
You could always bring the gearbox forward to meet the engine and fit a longer prop.
Need to see one with the Subaru box fitted.
I like the idea, Issigonis, blessed be his name, designed a flat 4 for the car but they used and engine they were already making.

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
but will that resolve the problem? all that will do is bring the engine into contact with the chassis rail further forward? unless of course you intend to mount the engine/gearbox at an angle but then you have the problem of the prop shaft.. or am I miss understanding what you are suggesting?MarkyB wrote:You could always bring the gearbox forward to meet the engine and fit a longer prop.

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
A search for Subaru Impreza transmission give a reasonable idea of what the box looks like.
Almost any engine swap on this kind of scale is going to require more or less major changes and some "out of the box" <gag> thinking.
On the positive side many of the Police, camera, action! programs I've seen involve Subaru Impreazas getting nicked and crashed shortly afterwards.
This should supply some ideal donor vehicles, one of which would be the best starting point, as you would needs almost all of the mechanical and electrical/electronic part from it.
I've thought of a name for the resulting hybrid "Lethal weapon".

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
I think it sounds like a good little project, as long as i can get the engine to fit (according to a guy on piston heads this "just" fits) it shouldnt be a problem.
But the result i think would be amazing!

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
your not wrong there, it would be awesome, but you will have to strengthen the chassis/frame like feck
Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
Ive seen some strengthening kits in JLH mods that i was going to get.
It's just planning the detail of everything out in order, engine, gearbox, lower roof, gas shock suspension, brakes.
Oh where to start... [frame][/frame]

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
aye right...............
Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
Well im going to give it a go anyway, just going to concentrate on the suspension and brakes for mine while im in the process of finding a doner car.
As far as i know this hasnt been done before, so it should be interesting to see if it works.[frame][/frame]

wait a moment.. a guy tells you that it will fit.. but it has never been done? how does he know it will fit if he has not done it.Kojima wrote:Well im going to give it a go anyway, just going to concentrate on the suspension and brakes for mine while im in the process of finding a doner car.

of course if you can fit a v8 in a moggy you can probably fit most engine but the amount of work required is not going to be small.

"Just fits" and "hasn't been done before" Does not compute.
This would be a major project for anybody, not a first project for anybody.

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
You will either need to be able to do the job yourself with the associated skills (welding, wiring, fabricating, painting etc etc) or be able to pay someone to do it. Without wanting to judge your abilities, it seems by the questions asked that you are putting together a wish list without a great deal of thought going into the finished product.
Figure out what you want out of a modified Minor (mild or wild), and don't spend twice because of an unwanted outcome (been there ).
My initial advice to buy one already done and personalise it still holds true.

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
'Manta fuel tank inside suitcase'
'stock interior with brake servo under drivers seat'
sounds like quite a well disguised motor! hiding the tank is a clever one, not heard of that before.
shame they did it to a split screen, but if it keeps it on the road so it's not all bad.
i like the big plate under the bonnet to keep the hot air away from the inlet. some proper work gone into that car.

Re: How To Fit A Rover V8 Engine
OK, I only other Minor I took pictures of was Royal Male.
Here are a couple more of the black one to give an idea how subtle it was, you would hardly give it a second look.
