Bleeding the Brakes and Leaks !!

Post by Arfron »

I changed all the hydraulic system a few months ago and failed, so it seemed , to seal the unions /coppet washer banjo -area , on the rear wheel cylinders . I re-heated the copper washers to cheery red etc ,and re-assembled and then re- bled . Ok so far-- tightened the bleed screws - popped on the rubber top-hats. A little later , hydrulic fluid started to flow from the bleed screw area !! Again !! So , I gave up for a few weeks and carried on with other work on the 1000. I came back to the brakes and the penny dropped , with a dull clunk.( no comments please !) The rubber top - hats had been forcing the fluid which had been left around the bottom of the bleed screw -- up the threads etc !! Paper towel was folded to push into the bleed screw hole to absorb the excess fluid -- I think the problem is solved !! This does not happen , I assume , if you do not use the top-- hats ? I hope that this may help someone else ? Arfron
