rear oil seal

Post by racer »

has anyone any experience of fitting /use of the rear crank oil seal kit that replaces the orig. seal,(which relies on the crank scroll to seal oil in?)

If you contact (Bath??) Minor centre they can send you the installation instructions, and having seen what is required I didn't buy one yet..

I talked to JLH minors about it and he thinks a similar way.
The seal runs on the non-flyheel side of the crank end flange. If the crank was machined in the past or the engine has been dismantled, this edge can collect dings. These can be cleaned up if you want to get it machined.
The bit I didn't like was that you need to have the rear bearing cap machined flat to another piece that they give you - therefore it's not a bolt on kit! Because of the machining/swarf, I expect this is a complete engine stripdown/rebuild job and I would consider it IF I was doing a rebuild anyway.
