A Tappet tale
Hi All Checked over my van yesterday, prior to a trip to Mallory Park Circuit today . Found tappets a bit noisy (sounded like 1 tappet a bit loose )Decided it would be ok .This morning tappets were even noisier ,but only when eng. was revved. Checked tappets 7am this morning ,found all gaps OK .BUT .HAPPENED TO CHECK THE REAR ROCKER POST NUT ,IT WAS TIGHT ,BUT THE THREAD WAS GONE ON THE STUD! When eng. was revved the tappet gap on the rear cylinder(s) opened by,I assume the rocker shaft flexing ,due to loose nut .Robbed a stud from an old eng. ,all back together Ok ,sounded fine . Too late to go to Mallory ,so went to Brands instead! Moral of the tale -dont take anything on face value !!!
