gearbox removal

Post by maurice »

just a tip for anyone who feels like taking the gearbox out without removing engine and without having a ramp or pit: don't do it. took me all day to get the thing out and then in. nightmare. lots of swearing and bruises involved. and another tip: do not let the speedo pinion-gear fall into gearbox if it comes loose. cos then you have to take out entire gearbox.
happy car-dismantling!!

I know how you feel mate!! I have done it myself, and that's why I take the engine out now!! If you think the standard Minor 'box is difficult to remove without taking the engine out, you want to try the Sierra 5-speed box with it's stupid bell-housing!! I have not tried it myself but it looks impossible!!

All good fun eh?

I think Cam meant to say 'it's character building'. :-?

Fun isn't the word that comes to mind. I had a lot of badly aching muscles when I did it...l
