how does one replace a wheel stud?

Bash the old one out - heavy club hammer, and then pull the new one in with a pile of washers and a wheel nut put on backwards so the flat face is against the washers. Just do one at a time - so you can put a steel bar through the others and down to the ground - to stop the hub turning.
