Stolen Morris Traveller with sun roof (now found!)
Sorry to report that my white 1971 Morris Traveller was stolen from East Dulwich, South East London last night. Registration XPN 947J
Its been in the family since new (3 generations) and I was due to get married in it tomorrow!
It was fully restored about 4 years ago so in good condition. It was even in the Lord Mayors show two years ago, so seen some brief TV action.
What's very distinct about the car is that it has a black Webasto sun roof...can't imagine there's more than a handful of Morris Minors in the UK with one of these.
If by any chance someone comes across a white traveller , please let me know.
Thanks
EDIT: Thankfully she's been found many thanks to LouiseM on this board!

Re: Stolen Morris Traveller with sun roof (SE London)
Very sorry to hear about your traveller, it seems that our cars are becoming more of a target as modern cars become harder to break into and have more security features fitted.
Would there be a case for MMOC to lease with insurance and security companies in order to recommend and sell suitable alarms to their members and any other security devices that could prevent theft of their member’s vehicles?
Anyway don’t want to hijack your thread the important thing is to try and recover your traveller good luck.

Many thanks for all the kind words.
Its frustrating that now its gone, I start to think about security measures.
If anyone has any tips on how to find it (e.g. people have mentioned ebay, incl France etc), I'd be grateful.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Louise well done indeed!
Re: Stolen Morris Traveller with sun roof (SE London)
No detective work involved, just pure good luck! I live at the opposite end of London to where the car was stolen from but spotted it last night parked in a side road just over a mile from where I live.pjh56 wrote:Excellent detective work Louise
I wouldn't normally have been in that area during the week but was driving home from the hairdressers when I got a very quick glimpse of a white traveller with what appeared to be a webasto sunroof. It was parked quite close to the junction of the main road that I was driving on but if it had been parked just a bit further down I would never have seen it. I drove down the same road on Saturday and I'm pretty certain that it wasn't parked there then as I'm sure I would have noticed it. Anyhow having seen this thread I thought it was worth taking a closer look so drove round the block again. After seeing it close up I was pretty sure that it must be the one that had been stolen as there are very few white travellers with webasto sun roofs around but I made a note of the reg number and hurried home to check that it was definately the same one. I then printed off this thread and took it to the local Police station, but it was closed!
Anyway to cut a long story short, and after several phone calls, I ended up sitting watching the car for almost two hours last night in case whoever had stolen it moved it before the Police arrived. To be fair to them, judging by the wailing sirens there was a lot else going on in the area at the time, and they were very helpful over the phone. I rang the Police again this morning and they have confirmed that the car has now been recovered for forensic testing so it will hopefully be reunited with it's owner soon (if he's not on his honeymoon!)
Just goes to show how useful this forum is!
I had a quick look over it but didn't want to act too suspiciously in case whoever had stolen it was still in the area I couldn't see any visible signs of damage thoughSteveandKelly wrote:Hopefully no damage to the car ?

Excellent work, DCI Louise !! Well done indeed. It goes to show that Moggiespotting can be more than just a pleasant way to pass the time of day . It can benefit others too ! This story has made my day.
Re: Stolen Morris Traveller with sun roof (SE London)
..This is the owner - there cant be enough smiles to show how happy I am or my gratitude to Louise!!
Im simply stunned as was starting to resign myself to the fact that she was probably gone for good...but thankfully this story has a happy end and I couldnt wish for a better wedding present!!!
Im on honeymoon at the moment and this has made it even better.
I felt quite emotional seeing the car, its been around since I was born and always a part of my life. Sadly Dad also had a Morris 1000 convertible stolen about 20 years ago which never showed up. So just goes to show how modern technology (i.e. internet) and old cars can live happily together!
Louise, Ill be eternally grateful as its clear you went to some trouble. Ill thankyou properly when back in UK.
Car is currently with the Police and apparently ok.
Many thanks Louise, MMOC and all the kind posts!
Liam (one happy man! )
