Marina starter motor for Traveller

Post by junglehungry »

I have a '68 traveller with a Marina 1275 engine. Any ideas on what kind(s) of starter motor(s) will fit, and where I can get one? - cheap and reliable would be good. -junglehungry

Are you useing the Minor gearbox? If so you need a Minor starter motor. The bolt holes are 5 inch centres. Mini etc are less than this, so will not fit! If you have a Marina g'box suggest a Marina starter. If Ford 5 speed I don't know, but suspect a Minor one again. The backplate has a bearing on these sort of things.

Yes, if you have this gearbox then you will be using a modified backplate and these are usually designed to use the Minor starter motor (mine does).

Thanks, I have now ordered a minor starter motor. No doubt I'll be posting again if my mechanically gifted friend and I have trouble putting it in.

Thanks again for the tips!
