Ital/Marina Hub puller
Hi
Has anybody had to remove an Ital rear hub? All the pullers I can source are for studs centred 100-115mm. The Ital studs are centred 95mm and I need to change the bearings and seals.
I like these cars. I really do. Ive owned almost a dozen, and still clean one I used to be taken to school in, but every time I try and do any little thing to them turns into a nightmare. I mean I've been around : Nice set of whitworths; Big Fat Steering Nut Remover; A decent, well developed, bootsale toolset. I thought the way was finally clear to happy days. Seems some things just carry on for ever. Unlike rear axle bearings.
Sincerely
MrTom

Mr Tom,
I'm not familiar with the Ital but if it is similar in configuration to the Minor axle, one old trick was to remove the half shaft, remove the hub nut. Now refit the half shaft backwards to the hub and use the wheel studs to pull the hub off. The centre of the half shaft outer sits against the axle tube and there should be sufficient thread on the studs to pull off the hub as you tighten them.
Good luck,
Alec

Ital/Marina Hub Puller
Hi
I had the same problem with my Marina axle, several years ago.
I had to resort to using a press in the end, obviously this means removing the complete half-shaft from the car and taking it along to your friendly garage!
Today I would probably try using a large 3 or 4 legged puller first, either hired from a shop or borrowed from a mate.
Loosen the large centre nut, fit the puller and tighten it down, then either leave it over-night under tension (you might be lucky!), or hit the end of the puller with a hammer to jar it free. If this fails use the press!
A technician at college, worked in several Triumph dealerships during the 1960s/70s. He reckoned their mechanics used to loosen the centre hub nut then take the car for a short drive round the block, this would be enough to loosen the hub Do not try this at home!
