Which fan for 1275cc Ital

Post by silverfox »

I'm in the process of fitting a1275cc ital engine which has no cooling fan. I don't want to fit an electric fan so can anyone tell me the best way to go. Which type of fan to fit. The minor is a 1960 2 door with standard radiator. I've read in the past on this forum that people have flattened the engine breather to stop it catching the fan. Can't this be avoided by ' packing ' the fan away from the cooler? thanks, Terry

I seem to recall the problem with packing the fan away from the engine is that you pack it into the radiator!

I've had a quick look and I think that there's room to use a few washers to bring the fan away from the engine breather, but I don't know which fan to use. Certainly there's no room for the ital fan with viscous coupling.

Use the minor fan, cut sufficient off the back edge of each blade with a tin snips to clear the engine breather.

Simple, I've done it!

One fan should be plenty, certainly in winter. Have another on stand-by for summer, but as long as you are moving the single fan should be plenty. And as above - either trim the fan, or just bend it slightly!
