Suck it & see I guess.... Get hold of a Haynes manual & use it at each step, if you're not sure ask & if you break something it's pretty certain that it can be fixed so don't stress over it too much, if you're reasonably mechanically minded & take your time you'll be fine.

Everyone has to learn sometime. Just proceed methodically and ask a few questions on here even if they seem stupid or simple as we like a chat and to see what's going on!

To be honest if you have a logical approach and buckets of enthusiasm you will be fine!

Good luck!

.....complete brake overhaul, gearbox, clutch, electrics sorting out(old alarm disconecting, various lights not working ect)work on the back springs and a few welding jobs !
:o
Doesn't really sound like a beginners car!
It's all fixable, but as metioned it will need a lot of enthusiasm.
For a beginner, its probably easier to start on one that needs limited work - then soon as you start to use it, you'll find a whole load of new jobs to keep you busy..

Good luck.

I was a complete novice (and still am!) when i first got my minor. I was discouraged about buying the car when i mentioned the problems it had on this board. I suppose a lot of people by cars with good intentions, but then give up through lack of time/money. If you have a little spare of both of these commodities then go for it.

Darren do you belong to your local branch as there should be someone who can advise you on a sensible approach, on how to start and give you a realistic time scale in which to do the work, and then to play safe double it and you should have a realistic target.
