help... its seems my engine is overheating. if left running for about 10 mins. it has had new antifreeze and been flushed. would it be air lock or thermosat? as there is a burbuling noise in the top up bottle. its a twincam
Could be air lock if it was ok before you renewed the antifreeze ? try running the car with heater on hot temp that usally does the trick also leave the cap off , you may have a bleed screw or bolt on the pipe to relese the air from the system ? if its still boiling up try the stat .
just hope your head gaskets ok . what twin cam is it , is the fan coming in ok also /
its a fiat twincam 2000. yes it was ok before i bled it, the fan is manual so its not that. its only got the old smiths round heater so it could be air lock then? which was my first thoughts. there is a small bolt near the stat with a valve cap on it, how do i use that? ie with engine running or not? cheers
Hi yes with engine idiling sometimes you can give them the odd rev to try & push it out but i find it best just to have heater on hot to keep the water going round . on the transit taxi engines we had to have a hose pipe running into the header tank just to push them out right begger to bleed why we had the bleed valve open till it pushes out a good jet of water
i think its sorted now, had it running with cap off and watched loads of bubbles rising in the top up bottle. this went on for quite a while. also the heater is a lot hotter.
tip: raise up the front wheels or carefully park on a hill or the car up on a kerb at the front, then undo the bleed screw, the air will rise to the top and will bleed easier. when putting the coolant in, let a generous amount run from the bleed screw and let all the bubbles run clear while still putting the coolant in for at least 30 seconds /1 minute and keep an eye for any more bubbles. you can do this with engine off but warm enough for the stat to be open but be careful you don't scald yourself. heater set it to full heat to open the valves and release any air there and set the power to 1 on the fan. this has been a pretty good method for me when dealing with even the most stubborn air locks. if this doesn't work then check your stat with an old pot of boiling water and see if it's opening.
