Public Liability Insurance?
I have recently been trying to enter my pick up in one or two Steam Rallies in my area,and on the forms I downloaded they state that all exhibitors need public liability insurance for at least £2,000,000.Surely the organisers of the rally have to provide the insurance?

Yup, Nova Club has the magic £5 million policy too, (and it's a tiny club compared with this one!) though I'm pretty sure we have to have an officially booked club stand for it to be active at a show...... (we do have the interestingly potentially dangerous hydraulically powered canopies, far more scope for injuring the inquisitive than an unexpectedly descending Moggy bonnet!)

Public Liability Insurance?
Just dug my policy out for this year... we get it free with our subs; each year.. not bad for a small club and only £8 subs; a year.. no wonder we have members from as far away as B'Ham
I know a few people who only join the club for the insurance.. having said that, I've never been asked for it at any shows I attend.
The policy is with Footman James and it covers jointly ( club stand ) or an individual club member attending a show, liability is for £5,000,000, so I suppose it's worth having

"Surely the organisers of the rally have to provide the insurance"?
Were getting into a legal minefield here
I'm sure the organisers will have a public liability insurance for the show/field but are trying to cover there backs should something go wrong. I assume its something to do with the "Steam Engines" Just imagine the carnage if one did blow up with a bunch of onlookers standing around it! Again I would assume if you have a Steam Engine you would have a public liability policy for it in case the thing did go wrong. As a point of interest, does your car insurance cover you for attending shows? On the other foot, what happens if your car gets damaged at the show? Does the show have a policy to cover that? Insurances - Dont you just Love -em!!

I agree with you on that point Croft, it's something I've never worried or even thought about and certainly wouldn't go out and buy it.. the amount of shows I've been to over the years I've never been asked if I had pli; but I have noticed on some entry application forms they do require itWere getting into a legal minefield here

I suppose in my case and other club members it's nice to have the cert;
in the car incase one official ( there's always one ) asks to see it.
