Just bought a new interior light as the previous one crumbled. I've been told that often happens if too bright (and therefore hot) a bulb is used. The bulb in there is 6W/ 12V. Is this correct?

Thanks! Yes, mine had a hole in it. Then I touched it a couple of weeks ago and it just disintegrated in my hand! I was quite surprised! The same thing's happened to the plastic cover that attaches the mirror to the ceiling for some reason. I don't think you can get those new, so I'm picking up a second hand one tonite

This is actually a tribute to the quality of plastic parts from the 60's and 70's!! You would have thought they would not ba as good as plastic technology was reasonably new to the industry however, plastic parts these days are extremely unlikely to last as long (the platic will be full of rubbish 'filler' to make it cheaper)

Unfortunatly all of the plastic lights in my cars have been original and they age like anyother plastic. They go all powdery and disintergrade in your hands. I so need to bother to replace mine. Also, should the internal lights only come on when the ignition is on? Mine do (1969 2door), which is not like most mordern cars and I have yet to check someone else's Minor....

Yeah, Interior courtesy light thingy. I can't even switch it on manually by the switch without the ignition being on. I'll have to delve into the loom next time I get back.

Mr A...your feed wire to the courtesy light circuits is PURPLE.
Normally it comes from the fuse which has a BROWN wire
supplying it and three purple wires off of it. The other fuse
(which is only live when the ignition it on) is fed by a WHITE
wire and has several GREEN wires off of it. See if you can
find a purple one attached to the green ones, if so that is
your problem
