Government vehicle

Post by tfee »

I was wondering if any of you could help me out with some additional info on my Morris. I have a 1970 Morris Minor Traveler that I bought in the states and it has an aluminum plate on the dashboard that has the following information stamped upon it:

BRITISH LEYLAND MOTOR CORPORATION L.C.V. Div.
Cont. No. MI384 WV7866
Vehicle No. 17RNO1
Chassis No. 1274711

It also has locations for No., Mk. and Code No. but these have been left blank.

Any information that you could pull from these numbers would be of interest to me.
Thank you

I should add that I was told that this car was used to chase gulls from a runway so that planes could land. It would be interesting to find out which airport it was used at or if it's even true. I was also told that this car has 29K original miles on it and I am having a very hard time swallowing that. The car has more iron oxide than iron.

Could you by any chance take a snap of the aforementioned plate?

I took about four shots of the plate and this is the best of the lot, if you can't read it you will have to refer back to my first post.
Thanks again<br>Image<br>

Low mileage doesn't mean it won't rot - runways and most roads get salted heavily. The salt gets spread over the underneath of the car and in combination with lumps of damp mud it keeps the car rotting even on dry days.
Most airport vehicles would be high mileage (these days) so be raound the clock a few times but maybe less so in the good old days
