New headlights

Post by Sidney'61 »

My minor has headlights with built in sidelights as the original sidelights have been changed into indicators and I was thinking about what different types of headlight I could use, and I understand the healights currently on the car probably came from a mini.
Now, I was wondering do you think I could get BMW headlights to work? The ones with the LED 'halo' sidelights around the edge, I don't know whether the BMW lights would be the same (or similar) size or if they would have the same power usage but I think they would look amazing on a modified minor! I'm sure I've seen them on a minor somewhere before so can anyone shed any light on how much work this requires?

Anything is possible, Andy. You just need to work it all out. Get headlights first then conmpare sizes etc. Work out a mounting arrangement. Make brakets etc and fit headlights. Power usage shouldn't be too much of a problem as you can always fit a larger alternator and battery if required. All lighting circuits should also be fed through a relay to protect the wiring.....

Try ebay and search for mini headlights - all kinds of stuff available (angel eye, halo etc...)

Alternators not required if your headlights / sidelights are legal! They have a max allowed power rating...
LED's are of course low power ;-)

Aha, I didn't think of the possibility that they actually make lights like these for minis, good idea.
As for the alternator I already have one so there should be no problem then.
Thanks

The maximum power rating only applies to cars after a certain age (I cant remember what it is...) but in theory minors could be fitted with anything (in terms of power)

For getting revenge on the Chav wagons with illegal aftermarket HID kits that blind everyone in their path?

To my mind the Mini 'Angel' etc lights just look ghastly - but each to their own! By far the very best 7" light unit ever produced was the Cibie Bi-Ode - which had two halogen bulbs within and excellent lens design. Sadly no longer produced - the few that appear on ebay attract very high prices.
