Going to drive a Minor for the first time.

Post by Reece »

Hello all
Not been to this site for quite awhile due to other commitments, tomorrow going to inspect a 1960 saloon which is for sale, and not too far away from me, only 8 miles.
Got some premlinary photos - bodywork appears nice and clean with no rust evident
Interior is also clean and the seats are ok if a little worn.

The next thing is to give the car a full inspection including underneath (It has passed its MOT last month) and a test drive - hope I do like driving one.
Price is ok and the seller will haggle a bit.

This one could be in driveway soon. :P

You should find it quite easy and light to drive the only thing to be aware of is that the Brakes are much heavier in action than a modern car and can require aq bit more shove so to speak, good luck and have fun.
Cheers

On a 1960 car it will have 'pull start' ie. you turn the ignition on with the key, then pull the right-hand knob to operate the starter motor. Also there is no synchromesh on first gear, so you have to come to a stop before you change down to first otherwise it will crunch loudly.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Or so short like me you disappear under the dash whilst trying to locate it and can't see where you're going!

really easy to find the switch if you have a long stick! the gearbox cover is smaller so access is great! compared to dads anyway!

In fact - my Toetector boots I use for Steam Engine Firing - are size 14 ! To allow for thick woollen socks because of the heat.
