Fitting a new ring gear.

Post by dawpooldad »

Put your flywheel in the freezer for about an hour before the fitting. It will then be contracted enough so that you don't have to heat the ring gear as much to fit it (it can be done on a gas ring!)
Put the flywheel in a plastic bag so that it does't freeze to anything!
I had a devil of a job with my flywheel as it had ice welded itself to the bottom of the freezer. :-?
Just scrape off any ice that has formed around the fitting and the ring gear will drop on much easier. :D
Make sure it goes on the right way round though i.e. the bevelled teeth towards the clutch face!!!!

You can also use a barbeque to heat the new ring,in case
you do not have gas.

I also used high strength retainer (Loctite 638). With this it will never move unless heated.
