What's this warning light?

Post by buellzebub »

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me what the orange warning light between the 80 & 90mph numerals is please? I wondered if it was for the indicators, but redundant as there is a green light on the end of the stalk?
Thanks,
Mick

Blocked oil filter. Many cars don't have a sensor for this light and it's not necessary if you change the oil and filter at the proper service intervals.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Ahhh, thanks. :D
Should it illuminate with the ignition on but the engine NOT running, same as the oil pressure light? Mine doesn't, it doesn't come on at all, so wondering if the bulb's blown.
Thanks,
Mick

No - only comes on when oil filter blocks - hopefully never! You can test it by earthing the lead going to the oil filter - then it should light up.

I bet if you took the speedo out you'd actually find a little rubber cover over the back of that bit if its the original (my car had one!)

Indeed - if there is no switch on the oil filter casing. As far as i know - the Minor is the only car (of it's era) with a 'filter blocked' warning light - although maybe the A40 had this too since the engine was common ?

Didn't the Mini use the same speedo gauge? If so what did it have there?

Certainly no filter blocked light! Various versions of that Speedo on both Mini and Minor. Like the Minor - early Mini had silvery face on the speedo.

I used the 'spare' warning light for my driving lights.

and the little switch under the speedo turns the panel lights off. (that's usually the next question!)

This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.

Presumably you mean the two orange lights? It doesn't matter, as long as you know which is which. If either light is on, then something is wrong and needs attention. If you want to swap them, over then it's a simple job.
