lift the dot

Whats the business with this "lift the dot" fastener?

I lift it, and it pops up, but then theres a nut on the underside, so it takes one person to hold it whilst another undoes the nut!

Sorry I am a bit confused here what does this relate to, I know the carpet has press studs but where are these ?

They used them on the convertible hoods, but I think those screw in, and would be held by spire clips, unless they went straight into the wood bracer behind the seats...

Are you trying to remove the fastener from something, and it has been bolted together, rather than the usual connector? The "male" part fits to the bodywork, generally, and is held donw by screws, bolts, araldite &c. The "female" part fits to the hood (or carpet...?) and just clips together, I think.

If your floor is original the female part of the press stud will still be present, most of the new carpets supplied do not come with the press studs in the carpet although I would think Newton Commercial could supply some if you have the floor half still in place and then you would have to fit them in the carpet in the appropriate positions

Funnily enough it never moves - the underfelt/soundeadening felt is great for holding the carpet down. But even so, it do know what it is, now. I wonder if there are any more knocking about in there...?

i originally meant the fastener for the back seat, that lets you drop it down.

Right that one should be of the twist to release type a bit like the old brief case fastners where the strap has a slot in it which the catch goes through and is then turned 90degrees to retain in place, there should not be a nut to retain it, sounds like someone has altered it.
