Mechanic / Garage rates per hour...

Post by Orkney »

Inspired by curiosity and a comment Kevin made in another thread just wondering what the going rate is ?
Also curious about what or if the same rate gets charged on restoration work?

£28 per hour here for jobs on the modern car i cant do through lack of facilities or tools. And thats in a great little garage / MOT station.

I'm sure locally its around £40 per hour - yet another reason for owning a Minor, you never need to actually use them!

(well, accept for bodywork :( )
What would Macgyver do..?

You don't need to use garages for bodywork, either! ;-) Only for an MOT and wheel tracking.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

I'm not professional Kevin. Flattered however, that you would ask

Dunketh (and his car) maybe could benefit from a little instruction and some practise, not that i've seen his car.

I use a small garage in a village in east Suffolk called Badingham Garage. I dont think he charges more than £25 an hour. Really helpful chap and he does MOTs as well. :)
His petrol & diesel is a bit more expensive than elsewhere, but I always buy it there as I think it is important to support these small local garages, as otherwise they disappear..

Actually from 10 foot or more it looks fine to me. You only notice the slightly iffy paint finish when you know to look for it, or you're fairly close.

Unlike the job I paid a local bodywork "specialist" to do on the Midget - 3 different shades of badly prepped oversprayed full of runs and reaction bubbles rattle can, and none of them match the car!

Me next, me, me, me!

Think my local place charges around thirty quid an hour, but I'm allowed to pay what I can, when I can, as he knows how skint I am (still stuck in cheap factory work at the mo). So, although I now owe him seven hundred quid, he'll keep getting cheques from me every month until it's paid off.

Then me please! I'll drop one of my 'sad cases' off next time I'm passing!!!

I'd like to work on this principle too, but have bills to pay and a bank to support... Mind you, reading this thread I think I'm too cheap. May have to reconsider the pricing structure in the New year
cheers

Back on the topic of how much places charge I think that Minor Mania in North London charge £25 p/h. When it comes to bodywork (which they contract out) they charge much more.
Kirsten (me not the car) is my name and I'm male!!
