When I scrapped my last car (a Volvo 440) a couple of years ago, the scrapyard paid me £50 for it and charged £20 to collect it using their tow truck. Someone I know recently got £50 with free collection for a Ford Mondeo (but he said there was £20 worth of fuel in the tank that he couldn't be bothered to try to extract).wibble_puppy wrote:I thought that if you scrapped a car you had to pay the scrap people to take it away. Surely better for the seller to take whatever he can get for it.
I'm not sure why people do this thing of leaving a car to rot for years and then suddenly announce, "if nobody buys and collects it in the next two days it'll be scrapped."

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

You want to move to Leicester - in the local paper every night are at least 7 adverts for scrap cars wanted with at least £30 paid on collection - most are offering £50 - £75+.wibble_puppy wrote:I thought that if you scrapped a car you had to pay the scrap people to take it away.
This may have changed but up till recently the Council were offering a free collection for scrap cars to stop them being dumped.
