no doubt i am about to be corrected but the post office had YALE locks fitted to the drivers door for security. russ will no doubt be along to give you all the info you require.

hi james, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase!!! :D evidently a man of taste 8)

I've not seen a rear door with the numberplate recessed into it, although it's ringing a very very faint bell - might be a custom mod perhaps. Russell Harvey will know if it is a standard mod.

Many GPO mail vans had yale locks, but on the front door not the rear ones - the rear doors had a long bar which swung down across the outside of both doors and was locked in place - so, pretty good security all round 8)

GPO vans also had the hooks which hold the rear doors open parked horizontally on the outside, just below the outer edges of the doors, rather than vertically on the inside on the door "pillars".

Hopefully I haven't dropped too many clangers there but if I have then Russell will set us straight :)

Have you written off to DVLA for the history of the vehicle? There's a fee but it can reveal lots about its origin and use.

cheers and happy restoring! :D
