Hello out there., I have a modified pick-up / caravanette (1970) http://www.morrisminormaniac.co.uk check it out, and have a MASSIVE problem with the old wiring loom. I have an imobiliser fitted (previous owner) and the wiring is kinda all over the place. the horn parps when nothing is pressed (have had to disconnect both wires from the horn to shut it up).., flashing indicators don't work., windscreen wipers only work when the lights are on.., windscreen wiper screen wash doesn't do anything.., windscreen wipers switch doesn't do anything either. I have trawalled through the wiring charts in the books and nothing seems to look like mine?? I am desperate to get my minor on the road this summer but can't seem to figure out this little mess.., is there anybody out there that would be willing to advise / help..., many thanks., tim
If you want a clean start, you could buy a new standard loom. These are available as per original or modified for alternator.
Once the standard vehicle wiring is sorted, then it'll need a few additions for the caravan!
A standard loom is extremely easy to fit... Except for the dash area. That isn't so bad if it is properly colour coded, but takes a bit of time (a lot less time than trying to fault find a spagetti nghtmare).
Would love to see your vehicle in the flesh - so get wiring

hiya., yep, the lcv register guys nicknamed her the snail, they want to do an article on her for the register and minor monthly magazine, I feel dead proud. I know NOTHING about cars, but when I bought her back in may,2005 I have learnt to weld, upholster, spray paint and bash things. how do I add my picture at the bottom of my messages like you guys have then ??
seems like i have to stick to calling her the snail then, being as everyone knows her as it think the best thing to do then is to purchase a new wiring loom and fit it, thanks for all the advice guys. Think I'm off to Tesco later and buy her a microwave (my dads idea)., she's already got a two burner cooker with grill, fridge and new sink (the missus wants a dryer in there, but I think not.,)
The amount of power a microwave takes means you would need a big inverter and a huge battery. Likewise with electric cooking.
Normally motorhomes and caravans are equipped with electric hookup so you can plug into a mains socket on suite, or use a generator if there's nno hookeup. However you'd need a big genny for cooking / microwaves.

I have fitted an electric hook up on the o/s of the caravan which leads to a rcd and socket inside. The microwave and fridge work from these. I also have a DC power source seperate from the car one, which is wired upto the lights inside the caravan. Also the fridge can work from this when travelling. I have just got some nifty sidelamps which run off mains electric and also an oil-filled heater, so if I go to a site where ther's electric hook-up it'll be lovely.., if not, I'll still have lights and a fridge. and if that fails, I have one solar powered light in there aswell. cor., tires me just thinking about it.. oh, and my cooker is a two burner with grill which runs off the bottle.
hey., only just realised, I used to play my remote control car at Hixon airfield, and not that long ago either.., nice place. used to watch the planes from the flying club too. My friend had a helicopter but he crashed and burned it more or less the first time he took it for a flight - muppet.
ok-doky then, I have got the main lights, side lights, high beam lights to work.. the windscreen wiper jets to work. I am going to tackle the others one by one, can't really afford a new wiring loom, so only as a LAST resort.., the windscreen wiper switch had a black wire going to number 7 on the switch and black/green going to the number 5 on the switch and it doesn't work.., I have just swopped a switch with this one to check its not the switch and it works fine, so what's the problem?? The indicators have two wires coming from the stalk which are brown and the other black.., where do these go to?? all the other wires have gone to the connectors with the same colours plugged in, but there doesn't seem to be a home for these two....?? can anybody help me Pleeeeeez., many thanks the wiring chart that I'm going by, I have put up on my website.., click here to see it., ta http://www.blueangelic.toucansurf.com/m ... gchart.JPG
The windscreen wiper motor has three wires going to it. the BLACK wire
is connected straight to the metal casing of the motor. The GREEN wire is
connected to the top terminal and the lower terminal takes the GREEN/Black
lead. The wiper switch supplies the earth connection when switched on, the
motor is 'live' whenever the ignition is on. The wiper motor is NOT bolted
to the chassis it is mounted on insulating rubber bushes. If you turn on the
ignition and short the GREEN/Black lead to earth the motor should work.

just checked and the three wires were as you said, but nothing. the motor is on rubber bushes too. I put a continuity tester between the green wire and the motor, if this wire was live, the bulb should have come on , but it didn't., should this be live??
Yes, the plain green wire is Live when ignition is on if you trace back to the
fuses you will see the one which supplies several green wires. If it was the
fuse which was faulty then you would have no feed to the stop lamps, oil pressure warning light,flasher unit, or the heater switch so if none of these is
ok then you have a fuse problem but, if some of them work you will have to
do some back tracing to find where the live feed goes open circuit. A good place to check would be at terminal'B' on the voltage stabilizer which is found
on the back of the speedo as there are three green wires at that terminal.
You can prove the wiper motor works by simply running a lead from the non
earthed side of the battery straight to the Green terminal with the wiper switch 'ON''
