The final push

Post by SUE482 »

Well it took me a bit longer that tea time but getting a bit nearer to our first public outing together for 35 years. I'm looking a lot older and she is getting to look younger all the time.
Here she is all badged and trimmed up, takes years off doesn't it. Just the carpets to get and seats to repair and we will be off on our our first date.

Finished

Post by SUE482 »

Time to put the carpets in, I decided to visit our local carpet dealer and see what he could offer. I came up with this at a fraction of the cost of purpose cut ones. Took me ages to get the templates right but the I am very please with the final product. I understand that the original was a 2 part installation, plus sills and front arch covers, I ended up with a 5 part solution. Front bulkhead, gearbox cover, transmission tunnel, and 2 floors.
A few pics to show the progress and thanks must go to "plastic orange" for the seats, cheers Pete.

And the finished product:

If anyone would like the template measurements for the carpets I still have them to hand.

Now the big question WHAT DO I DO NOW :-?

Superb, I also like the space created by leaving out the parcel shelf, it actually looks like that's the way it's supposed to be.
Very neat carpet work too, I can't see any frilly edges, how did you achieve that without any edging??
Great work. :D

Hi David, yes got the tax, insured of course and took it for quick spin, I had forgotten what it was like to drive old cars, its a different way of life but I'm getting into it. No MOT as it's exempt but checked as it went in for headlight alignment and tracking.

Gabriel, if it's still OK use the old relay shaft as the new ones are not a very good fit, see here

Hi Mike, yes took some tips from a carpet fitter, the carpet on the arches, tunnel and sills are fitted first and stuck down, gearbox cover can be removed as one piece but still stuck down, the floors are then tucked under so you cant see the edges. I fitted the under felt fist so the I had a template to work to when I came to fit the carpet, I had to have a couple of goes on some it.
By the way when I first bought the car there was no parcel shelf so I assumed the never was on this model, but as you say it gives lots more room.
