Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK
Hi,
As promised, below is an image of the Morris Minor? clock that I have acquired, missing it's chrome outer ring / bezel?
There is a spade type terminal on the back, which I assume is the positive connection?
Doe's it earth through the body of the clock?
Finally, once mended and working what fuse size would be best? 5 amp?
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK
HI Mike
I'm not sure that you have an MM version of the clock.
The MM version is mounted by passing the back of the clock through the front of the glovebox. I don't see how that can be done with the adjustment tab at the top. As you know, the time setting cable detaches from the body of the clock, so that is not an issue.
BTW, I have a clock similar to yours and I am not confident that it is an MM version.
I need to do some research on what a genuine MM version looks like from the back.

I also looked for rear images / images of how one is fitted but found none online.BTW, I have a clock similar to yours and I am not confident that it is an MM version.

Perhaps some kind soul on here will post some up?
Let me know how you get on with your research.
Best wishes,

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK
What you have is an early Morris MO dash clock pictured, that clock is installed into the dashboard from the back and secured by the brackets on the side, the clock rim isn't chrome as the rim showing at the front is in the dash and not on the clock. The Series MM clock is installed into the glovebox from the front.

Thanks for the images, they clarify things nicely. I also note that the Minor clock is wind up rather than powered.
Oh, well, back to the drawing board........
Anyone on here with an Morris MO looking for a clock?
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK
The Minor clock is electric, the bracket in the previous picture is covering the connection, see below. The picture of the clock in my glove box is before I connected it up.

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK
Not necessarily, Mike.Oh, well, back to the drawing board........
I have seen somewhere a MO version that was neatly converted to fit the Minor glovebox...but I can't find it just now. It of course depends on sourcing a suitable trim ring (which is where we started ).
Then of course there are my reproductions. Declan tells me he is not doing the Minor ones anymore. He is concentrating on his MG and (only recently) Jaguar clock reproductions.

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK
Watching them but they're always a bit pricey. There are two of the correct clocks on eB now.
Big irony here, the chap I bought her off had two clocks and he was going to include them in the spares with the car, until my (shoot myself in the foot) honesty circuit kicked in and before I could silence my voice circuit, I'd told him they would be worth something and 'to be fair' he should sell them separately.......
He thanked me for my honesty.
The one he kept was slightly different (also better) and had a chrome ring on it....
Probably the correct clock for the car.
I have been kicking myself ever since.......
My 'honesty circuit' is now booked in for a court martial and firing squad!
Best wishes,
Mike.

Mike
Now that MM1949 has kindly shown us exactly what we are looking for, perhaps you could get back to the MM seller with a sensible offer.

Not a bad idea Don, assuming, of course, that he hasn't already sold it.don58van » Sun Oct 13 2024 7:08 pm

Still worth an ask. And then another look. I say that, as having now seen both sides of an original one I know what it should look like, so I'll want a better look at his, before committing money to the table.
I'll let you know.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: MM & early SERIES 2 GLOVEBOX LID CLOCK
Just going off topic for a moment....
Auction had a Buy it now of £45, with an Offers Button.
Chancing my luck, I offered £40 and they bit my arm off, accepting within the hour.
It consisted of: When I went to pick it up, I had a little chat with her dad and when we went to get it all from the garage he said, .... "I've chucked in 3 Coils as well, don't know if they work but you might as well have them".
So I thanked him for his generosity.
Having got it all home, I've found that the 3 Coils are original 1970s, 2 Lucas and 1 CI (who I'd never heard of so looked them up) and all of them work . Bonus.
The Starter is clean and has new brushes fitted, it looks to have been professionally overhauled decades ago and never fitted. Spins smoothly.
Not looked at the Dynamos yet, but he did say one was the spare he had for the Traveller so it was a good one.
So long as the windings are OK, I've got the spares t there to overhaul them.
All the brushes and bearings must be worth £10 each.
Such a generous bloke, so I did feel a little guilty, ...but only after I got it all home and went through it all.
It's not often you can find a good deal with a Job Lot.
I saw a 'Job Lot' on ebay, being sold by someone on behalf of her father, who had sold his Traveller and was clearing his garage out.
