FJ wanted to add 20% on my renewal this year. I contacted them and they said that they could not reduce anymore. None of my details have changed. Went to RH and they can insure me for nearly half what FJ wanted. Guess where I am going. Not sure why FJ are the preferred insurance company when they are so much more expensive. I get all the same cover but nearly half the price elsewhere. FJ just said well good luck we can not help you get anywhere near their quote.

One insurance company can not be cheapest for everyone!! Stop complaining about FJ just because you got a better quote elsewhere. Other insurance companies that are cheaper for some people only insure very 'safe' drivers, lots of ncb etc etc. FJ will however insure basically all moggy owners, including all the young members! And any other 'higher risk' individuals for any other reason. It doesn't mean they are not as good, or should not be associated with the club!

yes all insurance is individual ,however if your circumstances do not change at the end of your year ,why pay more and why accept poorer service?

being loyal used to pay dividends but now ,no :-?

Almost all insurance companies try and up your premiums every year and offer "discounts" to new business.
In my experience FJ don't operate in this way and do reward loyalty.

Sorry Alex'n'Anne, but I will complain about FJ- having been insured with them for 10 years, I find a 50% increase in insurance costs in 2 years (despite NO changes in my circumstances) unacceptable. You would too if your premium shot up for no reason! I'm too old to be looked after as a 'Young member' but hardly geriatric at 36. How can they be so much more expensive despite the super duper deal worked out so carefully with the club? Elsewhere, I have found that specialist schemes enable me to get a BETTER deal (such as with my T2 VW). FJ have treated me well until now, but I am no longer insuring my 3 Minors or my camper with them, as they have put up there premiums so much compared to other insurers offering a similar product. So much for looking after existing customers, and benefits of Owners' Club membership!!

Oh dear, sounds like new management at FJ, not looking forward to renewal time.

I look after the MMOC club scheme for Footman James, I also own two Morris Minors and attend a number of National and regional events for the club in both a social and professional capacity.

We do compare our rates with those of our competitors on a regular basis to ensure that we remain competitive. When we make these comparisons we will do so on a 'like-for-like' basis as most people are aware our policies are inclusive of value added extras such as breakdown cover, personal accident cover and legal expenses etc. You wouldn't go to Waitrose and expect to compare the cost of your shopping with Aldi now would you?

Insurance costs ARE increasing, it's a sign of the times and these are going up across the board. Insurers won't tolerate paying out more money than they receive in premiums for any length of time, no business could afford to run in that way.

It's possible that premiums would fall if we stopped insuring higher risk drivers? However this isn't really in the best interests of the club, car clubs need to encourage younger members in order to maintain their very existence

As of last week we added new insurers to our underwriter panel who will also offer competitive premiums to club members so we now have a wider range of policies available. Your renewal invitation can only offer you a price for exactly the same cover you had last year so if your circumstances have changed or if you're able to offer a reduced mileage limit then call the number on your renewal invitation and see if there's a better deal to be had.

When comparing prices do make sure you're comparing 'apples with apples.' One of our competitors, who i won't name but have already been mentioned in this thread, will charge as follows for the extras which we automatically include :

Breakdown Cover £40
Agreed Value £15
Legal Expenses £25
Personal Accident Cover £18

that's £98 of additional premium to compare like-for-like

One final thing. There's some pretty big numbers being thrown around in earlier posts. I'm not going to become engaged in discussing these online BUT.....if you believe your premium has increased by an unacceptable amount then please feel free to contact me directly. You can PM me, you can get me at david.youngs 'at' footmanjames.co.uk or you can call me on 0121 561 6297.

Thanks for reading all that! Dave

hi went to the Walsall car show yesterday and the hot topic was increased car insurance ,and i have to say lots and lots of criticism of fj renewal prices and much praise for others .

So no smoke without fire ????????????

So there must be a change in the air from FJ ?????????

I was happy with FJ's cover etc ,this year I have unlimited mileage and £20 in my pocket,I am aware that next year it may be best to move again, but in this day and age of computer input data etc I will judge peter james on price and how I've been treated, this year, also a couple of other firms came close ,it seem they wanted me more !!!!!!!!!!!!
