Re: Pickup restoration part three
new parts, still more needed after this, the battery retaining parts as mentioned above, and I'm sure there are things Ive forgotten, anyway, here is the brand new master cylinder Ive been promising myself, the rubber seal for the passenger side cab to rear side, the chrome spacer and its nut, the distributer cap.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
the wheel box isn't sitting correctly, the metal tube cable cover seems to be forcing it around at an odd angle.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
this is making the spacer that helps locate the wiper spigot push up at an odd angle, I may try bending the tube around to conform to the shape under the dash.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
the drivers side is sitting correctly because I haven't connected up the cable yet, so there's no tension on it.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Have you got the rubber spacer fitted between the wheelbox and the dash? Theres also usually a sort of rubber gasket that goes below the chrome bit to stop it digging into the paint.
Too many Minors so little time.....
Re: Pickup restoration part three
The metal tube can be easily bent (back) to the right shape, but be very careful not to kink it!

Re: Pickup restoration part three
a rubber spacer? no, I wonder if I can fashion one from a spare suspension bush, this shot shows the original in place. I'll watch I don't kink the tube when I bend it to shape, thanks.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
rubber bush fashioned to shape and fitted, the jury is still out on these wipers though, I need a rubber to go under the chrome spacer to keep the rain out, and I need new wiper blades, still thats easy to fix, now on to more difficult tasks, the side body seal and the master cylinder, Tommorow, I'm off on late turn shift now.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
In the picture of the underside of the wheelbox I wonder if you know that the tube ends fit IN the boxes before the two halves are bolted together?
Re: Pickup restoration part three
David
Have you got rubber gaskets under the bonnet hinges, difficult to see from the photo ?
Re the wiper set up, check out the parts referred to ( by the other David ) on the http://www.moss-europe.co.ukwebsite, Morris Minor section. It will "hold" the wheel box and spindle in the correct orientation to the bulkhead/ windscreen. It will also stop the rain pouring into the cab and onto the electrics !! Clamp the tube ends inside the two halves of the wheelbox...as per
Les suggestion.. and it will all line up then.
Once you are happy, I'd withdraw the cable and grab a blob of grease in the palm of the hand and reinsert the cable, greasing as you go.A messy job but you won't have to do it again for many years.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
great advice there everyone, parts on order. The fiddly task of getting the side seal in completed, after much grunting and groaning, messy job with all that gunkey sealant.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three

I'm not a pick up expert by any means but I agree with you the gap between cab and floor section looks like the obvious spot for a rubber seal. There will be someone who has the correct answer along in a moment !
Keep going David, the job is nearly done...and what a fantastic job it is too.I'm practicing my congratulations speech.

Re: Pickup restoration part three
Thanks Bob, you have plenty of time to plan that speech, she looks far more ready than she actually is. There is still the Brake master cylinder to fit....[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
some Bull Motif parts arrived this morning, the battery bar and hooks, and the standard nut for the top furcrum pin, there is a lock washer with it, but I think they've sent me the wrong one for the front of the fulcrum pin. finally the wiper embellisher gaskets. Ive still to order a wiper wheel box to replace the one with the rough tip, and some other little bits n pieces.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
one step at a time, Ive got hours to fiddle and curse getting that older one out, actually I exaggerate, it's amazing how easy things come apart when you have only recently been working on them, combination of recent familiarity and oil.[frame]

Re: Pickup restoration part three
it's coming out, just the rear nut to undo, but it's attached to the brake pipe, so care needs to be taken as the nut keeps springing back and is difficult to undo.[frame]

The placement of the master cylinder is so conveniently placed for removing that rear brake pipe nut that I ran out of adjectives to describe it, trying to do the same as you.In the end ,I cut the old useless pipe and then took the nut off.
If it is new brake pipe leading from the rear of the master cylinder to the three way union, release the nut at the three way
union end ( catching brake fluid with a rag, if filled ? ).Then you can carefully ...move the rubber grommet in the box section and withdraw the master cylinder forward out of it's resting position, above the floor level.Don't force anything ,a second pair of hands up top, with you " feeding from underneath is useful.Undo nut when you have enough room to swing a spanner.
Reverse the proceedure, with a smear of brake pipe sealant if you wish, gently moving the pipe/ master cylinder back into place.Make sure the rubber grommet is well clear of the box section ( i.e. not inside it ) so you can fit when everything is done up tight again.A little vaseline on the grommet will help it slip in.
Use plenty of the rubber grease supplied with the m/cylinder on the push rod end, under the rubber boot, so that water/ moisture does not penetrate.
