Pick up Restoration (Part 2)

With the pickup so simple and easy to move out into the open, I can get to storage at the back of the garage[frame][/frame]

like this box of odd parts, some are beyond use, and others are a bit of a mystery to me, I'm searching for those slips of shaped wood that provide spacers between the cab and the cab back panel.[frame][/frame]

The shaped black plastic item on the left and the small metal disc below it are a mystery, anyone recognise what they are, if Morris related?[frame][/frame]

The shaped black plastic on the "other" right is the heater side piece.
I don't recognise the ally part

Cheers marky, edited that to,as you rightly point out, on the left of the pile, not the right. Is the heater part from an earlier model than 1968? because I don't recognise it, might have been missing from my original relic I would guess.

You making good progress David, you could even have that sorted in time for Harewood!

The black bits go on each side of the heater and provide the ducting up to the windscreen. This type of heater was used from about 1964 until end of production. I dont think the disc is minor related unless its just pick up related.

I might make Harewood 2020, Ive only just noticed the gutter is missing on the drivers side, just shows how far Ive got to go compared to my perception of how far Ive got to go. Ive not even thought about the Engine gearbox, then theres the brakes system, radiator, wireing loom... the list goes on into the distant horizon. But I still think I'm winning.

turning the pickup around to face it inwards to the garage is no mean feat, nice chance to get a shot of it with a different background, on my front driveway. The rear floor is welded in place now.

Dave, please dont be offended by my question. I have a pickup in France where I now live, I plan to get it restored and have toyed with the Idea of doing myself. I spent an afternoon looking at this thread and am a little worried. Are you really fussy and take a long time to do each bit, for fun as it is a hobby. Would a restoration company go about this the same way?

I just cant imagine paying someone by the hour to do what you have done. To get to where you are at now, how many working hours do you think you have taken?
I have tinkered with cars before, and my pickup is in a better condition than yours was but I am frankly shocked at the mount of work that needs to be done!! All the pictures are a great help.

Cheers Art, The rear side panels are taking up a lot of my available spare time, I had a quote from a body work restorer for £500 per side plus cost of parts. My whole ethic on this restoration hobby is, do the time consuming stuff yourself, the difficult highly skilled stuff, contract out to a professional specialist. It all depends how skilled you are already, how willing you are to learn new stuff, like welding. What do you want the vehicle for at the end of all this, drive to work, like me or show/concours at the other end of the scale. I've always wanted to do a car restoration, picking such a useful utility vehicle to have to use at the end of the project is just a plus for me. Restoration is a personal and individual thing.

At last I found them, the little wooden fillets that go between the cab, side panels and cab back. They were right under my nose all along in this box of mixed parts..[frame][/frame]

yes they are the hinge packers on the b post
the b post comes from or is the same as a 4 door saloon. and of course there would be holes in the b post for the hinges for the rear doors on a car

B post hinge packers, Thanks Dennis. Unfortunatly one is missing to Ive had to put the old woodwork plane to good use. The drivers side rear panel fits on but there is some adjustment to the home made hard wood hinge packer for it to go on right.
And, as you can see there is some steel channel to be made up and let in to replace the rotten bit I had to cut out. Not bad for the first pre-weld trial fit.

The new cab right side gutter repair section has arrived from BM parts. This will need shortening and narrowing to match the one on the left. In the background you can see the rear panel waiting to be removed, adjusted, tweeked and re fitted, when the rain stops.

Also from BM are these cab back and body side to floor rubbers. Here is a shot of the ends showing the three different moulding shapes, the two on the right are identical, the two in the middle are as well, the T shaped one on the left is on its own, shape wise, anyone tell me which one does what[frame][/frame]

the one on the left is for the cab to cab back this is a tricky one to fit and may need 2 people, this one goes all round the cab and cab back, may need joining just below the gutter on the b post but ideally in one if you can, originally this would have gone round in 3 parts

th e2 identical ones are the rear floor to pick up back

the other one is for a van

So this plier shaped one is meant for a van. Oh dear. Still, there's nothing missing from my order so no harm done.[frame][/frame]
