It comes ready fitted with a chisel mark, for the man who has a socket, but no chisel, but who wants to join the "chisel is normal" gang.
It's been a long day......

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Yes the nut can be good or wrecked, until you look but unlike the cat, based on these posts, I know where I'd put my money.
I never thought I'd have to defend the use of a spanner to undo a nut! Anyway as long as you 'chisel merchants' stay away from my nuts, carry on.

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Ahh, but what if the nut has been chiseled and the socket won't fit on???
I have used the hammer and chisel method but normally use a socket. By the way, my nuts are seriously deformed (steering wheel nuts on the minors of course....)

Just use your hammer to tap it onAhh, but what if the nut has been chiseled and the socket won't fit on???

I've got the right socket and would use it but wouldn't condemn anyone who hadn't and used a punch or chisel to the job done.

Personally I think you're all nuts..............................

1954 Series 2: 4 door: "Sally" -- Back on the ground with (slave) wheels, now being sprayed by me, slowly......
1970 Triumph Herald 1200: "Hetty" -- Driven back from Llangollen in Wales (twice.....)
1952 Morris Minor MM highlight with sidevalve engine still fitted, wants work, so joins the queue for now......

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Well you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
Bashed with a hammer, pierced with a chisel, cut with a hacksaw and squeeeeezed on all sides with a socket.
Has nobody stopped for a moment to think about the nuts feelings?

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
I replaced mine with a smaller nut with a washer (from an Austin Healey!).
Not sure of the size but I think it's around 1" so it's always easy to find a socket to remove it whenever the indicators stop working.

4 pages
unbelievable

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Have you a link to where we can get the 'smaller nut' ?? It will make for easier chisel access.....get a straighter HIT on the nut...

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Forget the nut, why not just splay the top of the column over with the hammer, should hold the wheel on. Any more problems, just get another column and wheel. Are we on page 5 yet ?

There's many on here
who answer with cheer
but the one thing I strive
is to be first on page five.

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Morning BMC,
I think it wandered off topic well before I posted but there's some great humour in there so long may it continue.
To bring it back strictly on to the topic, I'm a "right size Whitworth socket" sort of chap.
Cheers, Colin.

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Yes, you're a very naughty boy Mr BMC. You just can't resist getting a bit of steam up.

Re: Steering Wheel Nut
Did someone say 'steam up' ? Not till next saturday - Driver of the first trains of the season....
